Family owned and run hotel situated in the village of Strangford.
Peter, with a family history in hospitality going back to 1790, was drawn by the charm and beauty of Strangford, a conservation village on the shores of Strangford Lough, a world heritage site.
The place name of The Cuan goes back to the pre-Viking era when ‘Strong Fjord’ Lough was known as Lough Cuan – the sheltered inlet!
The privilege of working and living here is forever precious to us and we want to share that with you. We believe in preserving and growing the magnetism of The Cuan allowing you to feel the warmth of a family welcome, to recalibrate with a relaxing stay and enjoy our award winning seafood – fish doesn’t come any fresher being only ‘a nine iron’ from the shore!
Feel the release of the pressure valves of life as you arrive in the village, take a leisurely stroll around the ferry quay then settle in for an evening of coastal flavours accompanied by excellent wines, finally, snuggle up in our comfy 4* bedrooms for a restorative sleep that has been aided by fresh sea air.
The stunning unspoilt landscape of Co Down led HBO’s Game of Thrones team to choose Castle Ward as Winterfell Castle, during this time The Cuan became the home from home of Jon Snow, Ned Stark and many more of the Game of Thrones cast.
Book to stay in the bedroom of your favourite star, feast on our Game of Thrones Banquet and explore the rich collection of filming locations in the adjacent Winterfell Castle and beyond.
